History was made in St. Louis as Frank Castillo(1-1) tossed a no-hitter and
the Chicago Cubs defeated the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 8 to
0.

Castillo was just too much for St. Louis. He had excellent control, walking
only one. The tension built to a fever pitch. After the 8th inning
everybody in the ballpark was anticipating what would happen in the 9th.
Chicago had 12 hits for the night.

Jose Deleon(6-6) was the loser. Chicago knocked him around a bit, as he gave
up 6 runs in 3 innings. It took a while to pry Castillo way from his
teammates as they all wanted to show their appreciation and joy. Finally,
however, Jim Essian got to offer his own congratulations with a big bear hug
and the comment, 'That was one of the best pitched games I have seen in all
my years in baseball - Castillo was masterful out there tonight!'
