Mel Hall launched 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the New York Yankees beat the
Detroit Tigers by a score of 10 to 8.

The Detroit fans didn't appreciate the big day Hall had. He smashed a
solo-shot out of the park in the 4th inning, lashed a single in the 6th
inning and smashed a two-run homer in the 8th inning. The game was a wild
affair with the lead changing hands 5 times.

The winning pitcher was John Habyan(1-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Lee
Guetterman recorded his 1st save. The loss was charged to Jerry Gleaton(0-1)
in relief. He was unable to retire a batter and surrendered 3 hits and no
walks.

Catcher Mickey Tettleton ripped 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI but his offense was
not enough to carry Detroit to victory.
