The Detroit Tigers won their game against Cleveland last night 9-1. Toronto had the day off and now trails Detroit by 3.5 games. Chicago and Minnesota both had the day off so the White Sox still hold a 5 game lead over the Twins.
The race for AL Batting Champion is still a close contest between Julio Franco and Cal Ripken. Seattle's Ken Griffey Jr. has also now joined the battle. Cecil Fielder hit his MLB leading 51st Homerun tonight and also added 3 RBI to his MLB leading total of 133.
