1991 AL Box Scores and Standings

October 5, 1991

The Detroit Tigers easily handled the Baltimore Orioles today winning by a score of 10-2. Tiger Leftfielder Pete Incaviglia had a career day at the plate by hitting 3 HR's and collecting 4 RBI. Mark Leiter went 7 innings allowing 8 hits and 2 runs for his 10th Win of the season.
The Toronto Blue Jays played a night game in Minnesota, knowing the Tigers had won earlier in the day. In a good matchup, the Twins defeated the Blue Jays in 13 innings 3-2. The score was tied 1-1 after 9 innings before Toronto plated a run in the top of the 13th. But the Jays' bullpen couldn't close out the game, allowing Minnesota 2 runs for the victory.
Detroit now leads Toronto in the AL East by 1 game heading into the last scheduled game of the regular season.

WEB GEMS- Bot 2nd: Mark Leiter robbed Leo Gomez of a base hit.

Pete Incaviglia knocked 3 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Memorial Stadium where the
Detroit Tigers beat the Baltimore Orioles 10 to 2.

Incaviglia was unconscious all day. The Baltimore fans hated to see him
approaching the batter's box as he just kept delivering big hits! He bombed
a two-run dinger in the 2nd inning, ripped a solo home run in the 5th inning
and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 7th inning. Detroit had many
opportunities throughout the game and scored in 6 separate innings.

The victory went to Mark Leiter(10-5) who went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs. The
loss was charged to Dave Johnson(3-8). 'It's just about getting in a good
hitting position and just going out there and being prepared,' Incaviglia
said. 'You try to hit in your own capacity and not do too much. I just try to
have a good approach, day after day, game by game, and pitch by pitch.'
