1991 NL Championship Series Game 3

  The Pittsburgh Pirates pitching staff continued their dominance over the Atlanta Braves winning Game 3 of the 1991 NL Championship Series 1-0. It was the 2nd shutout in a row for the Pirates and Atlanta only scored 1 run in Game 1. Bobby Bonilla drove in the games' only run in the 1st inning off Atlanta starter Steve Avery. Avery was a hard luck loser, allowing only the 1 run and striking out 11 in 8 innings of work. John Smiley got the start for Pittsburgh and went 7 scoreless innings for the Win. The Pirate bullpen did the rest with Stan Belinda getting the Save. Pittsburgh is up 3 games to none in the best of 7 Series.

Bobby Bonilla had 2 base hits as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Atlanta
Braves 1 to 0 at Fulton County.
 
John Smiley(1-0) had a solid outing for Pittsburgh.  He went 7 innings
surrendering 4 hits and 2 walks.  The Atlanta batters didn't put up a fight
in the bottom of the 9th.  
 
Stan Belinda preserved the game for Smiley, recording his his 1st save.  Steve
Avery(0-1) was charged with the loss.  Although losing the contest, he
whiffed 11 batters in 8 innings.
