The Chicago White Sox are the 1991 MLB World Series Champions! Game 7 of the 1991 World Series was played tonight to a packed house in New Comiskey Park and the hometown team won a close ballgame 3-1. Jack McDowell got the start for Chicago and went 8 1/3 innings for the Win, his 2nd of the Series. McDowell was spectacular on the mound. He struck out 7, allowed only 4 hits, 2 walks and 1 unearned run. Scott Radinsky and Bobby Thigpen came on in the 9th to close out the game when Pittsburgh threatened.
Chicago scored first in the bottom of the 1st after Pirate starter John Smiley walked Frank Thomas intentionally to face Carlton Fisk with 2 out and a runner on 2nd. But Fisk came through with a clutch RBI double, which could have scored 2 if not for the slow footed Thomas who was held at 3rd base. Pittsburgh tied the game up in the 4th inning on a clutch RBI single from Andy Van Slyke. Fisk came through again in the bottom of the 5th for Chicago with another clutch double that plated what proved to be the winning run. Robin Ventura drove in the final run of the game in the 7th inning for the White Sox and McDowell, with help from the pen, shut down the Pirates the rest of the way.

Carlton Fisk hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI as the Chicago White Sox defeated the
Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 3 to 1 at New Comiskey Park.
Pittsburgh was unable to climb back into it after Chicago went ahead for good
in the 5th inning plating one baserunner using 3 hits. Pittsburgh was
out-hit by Chicago, 11 hits to 4.
