The Detroit Tigers had to come from behind to defeat the Baltimore Orioles today 6-4. Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the 8th inning Cecil Fielder hit a 2 out 3-run homer for Detroit. It was Fielder's MLB leading 52nd HR of the season.
The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Minnesota Twins for the 3rd straight game to keep pace with the Tigers. The Chicago White Sox 10 game winning streak came to an end, losing to the Seattle Mariners in extra innings 8-7. Even with the loss, Chicago's Magic # is down to 1.

The spectacular Toronto Blue Jays nipped the Minnesota Twins 4 to 3 at The
Skydome in a hard fought contest.
Toronto scored the deciding run in the 8th inning. After an out was recorded,
John Olerud drew a walk. Kelly Gruber stepped into the batter's box and he
doubled scoring the run. Minnesota made it exciting in the 9th, but they
were unable to push the needed runs across.
The victory went to Todd Stottlemyre(15-8) who went 8 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 3 runs. Tom Henke got the save, his 20th. Scott Erickson(18-9) was
the loser.

Mariners topped the Chicago White Sox by the slimmest of margins, 8 to
7.
The game was deadlocked at 7 after nine full innings. Seattle was victorious
in the 11th inning. Harold Reynolds drew a walk. Reynolds was running on
the next pitch and he stole second. After an out was recorded, Ken Griffey
Jr then doubled scoring the run. Seattle finished with 12 hits in the
victory.
Bill Swift(6-7) got the win allowing no runs in 3 and 2/3 innings. The loss
was charged to Melido Perez(9-10) in relief. He gave up 1 hit and 3 walks in
2 and 1/3 innings.

Detroit erupted with the game winning runs in the 8th inning scoring 3 runs
using 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Tony Phillips initiated the scoring
spurt when he slapped a one-base hit. Alan Trammell stepped up next and he
laced a base-hit. Lou Whitaker was the next batter, but he struck out.
Cecil Fielder came up and he lost the ball over the fence for three runs.
Detroit finished with 7 hits in the victory.
Dan Gakeler(5-4) went 2 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Mike Henneman
earned the save, his 25th. Mike Flanagan(5-6) was given the loss in relief.
Although losing the contest, he whiffed 4 batters in 1 and 2/3 innings.
