The Chicago White Sox have won the AL West pennant! Chicago defeated the Minnesota Twins last night 3-2 in a tight, well pitched game. The Toronto Blue Jays won an even better pitched game 1-0 over the California Angels. Jimmy Key and Mark Langston dueled it out for 8 innings with Key coming out the victor. The Detroit Tigers were also involved in a well pitched game. The Tigers prevailed 2-1 against the Baltimore Orioles. Solo shots by Lou Whitaker and Mickey Tettleton were the difference in the game. Detroit still holds a 1.5 game lead over Toronto in the AL East.

Fernandez got relief help from Bobby Thigpen who gained credit for his 31st save. Tom Edens(2-2) was given the loss. He pitched 4 and 2/3 innings and surrendered 4 hits and 4 walks.
