Tonight's game between Chicago and Detroit started out with a bang. The Tigers scored 2 runs in the top of the 1st but the White Sox came back with 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st. The big hit was a 3-run homer by Frank Thomas. With the game tied 4-4 in the 5th, Thomas (pictured) hit a sacrifice fly scoring the 5th run of the game for Chicago. Both teams' bullpens took over after the 5th inning and the White Sox came away with a 5-4 victory. The series heads to Detroit now with Chicago up 2 games to none.

Chicago jumped on top of Detroit in the 5th inning scoring a single run.
After an out was recorded, Joey Cora reached on an error. Robin Ventura
stepped into the batter's box and he lined a one-base hit. Thomas then hit a
sacrifice fly scoring the run. Detroit made it exciting in the 9th, but they
were unable to push the needed runs across.
The victory went to Greg Hibbard(1-0) who went 5 innings, allowing 4 runs.
Hibbard got help from Bobby Thigpen who earned his 1st save. Frank
Tanana(0-1) was tagged with the loss. He gave up 5 runs and 5 hits in 5
innings.
'He gutted it out' Jeff Torborg said of Hibbard. 'I was very impressed by his
tenacity.'
