Randy Tomlin allowed Jim Leyland to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
as the seemingly unstoppable Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Houston Astros
by a score of 8 to 2 at Three Rivers Stadium.

Pittsburgh tallied 5 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning with the help of 6
hits. The early run support proved sufficient for Tomlin(5-0) and
Pittsburgh. That was all the run support Tomlin required. Pittsburgh banged
out 10 hits on the night.

Jimmy Jones(5-7) was the losing pitcher. He was unable to control the
Pittsburgh offense and allowed 6 hits and 3 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings.

Pittsburgh continued their winning ways, seemingly unable to lose during this
stretch. Jim Leyland held court after the contest, 'Everything is coming up
aces right now. It is important for our team to ride this wave as long as we
can. Every win is important.'
