1991 AL Game of Note: Det @ Oak.

June 12, 1991

It was a wild game in Oakland tonight. For fans of high scoring games, this one had it all. 14 hits for each team, 4 lead changes, and 3 homeruns in the 9th inning by Detroit to pull out a 13-9 victory over the A's. Oakland went ahead early in the game but the Tigers battled back to take an 8-6 lead going into the bottom of the 8th. Then the A's got to relief ace Mike Henneman for 3 runs to go ahead 9-8 heading into the 9th. With Oakland relief ace Dennis Eckersley on the mound in the 9th, Detroit hit back to back to back homeruns off him. First, with 2 men on and no outs, Mickey Tettleton hit a 3-run homer to give Detroit the lead 11-9. Rob Deer followed that with a solo blast and Dave Bergman followed with a solo blast of his own to complete the trifecta. Detroit hit a total of 6 homeruns in the game.

Third baseman Travis Fryman connected with a 'big fly' and had 3 RBI as the
Detroit Tigers won in dramatic fashion over the Oakland A's by a score of 13
to 9 at Oakland Coliseum.

Detroit won the game with a rally in the top of the 9th inning when they came
up with 5 runs on 4 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Mickey
Tettleton who quieted the crowd when he lofted a three-run bomb. Both teams
finished the game with 14 hits.

Mike Henneman(4-3) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 2 innings. Dennis
Eckersley(3-2) was hit with the loss in relief. He served up 3 gopher balls
in 1 inning.

'I pin this one on my own shoulders,' Eckersley said. 'The bottom line is I
didn't get the job done. Our fans deserve better than this.'
